Movie Review “Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns” … (Scott’s Review)

One thing I like to do on a rainy night or a weekday if I have time is catch a flick at the movies. But lately I haven’t had as much time to go out to the movies. The last movie I saw was Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns. Initially I was going to go see Stop Loss, because to me that movie looked interesting and had to deal with something going on in the world at the moment. I ended up getting stuck seeing Meet the Brown’s, but honestly it was a cute movie.

The movie was based on the average story of a single mother raising three children, all with different fathers, in the projects. Angela Basset played Brenda, the mother of the three children. Her and her friend lost their jobs recently and Brenda had barely any money to put food on the table, let alone pay for the day care, which was running illegally out of an old ladies apartment. Her son was an amazing basketball player, who was offered to play at a camp, and prepare for college ball. She got a notice to go to Georgia for her father’s funeral, who she never met. To make a long story short, when in Georgia, she met her family, brother and sister, who had no idea she was related to them when she first came. She inherited a house from her father. Now I don’t want to ruin the ending for everyone so that part will get left out.

If I had to relate this movie to other movies, it reminded me of the movie Soul Food, and This Christmas. Both movies had to do with black families, who through hardships, work through by love and family. I would recommend seeing Meet the Browns, because it was a funny, yet cute movie. The whole idea behind it was so show the power of love and how it can really bring a family together, even through the worst financial times. Some may argue that this movie is just another movie about the hardships of poor families, and the love of black families, like the two movies I mentioned before. But I enjoyed the film even though it was similar to the others, because it was cute and interesting, as well as suspenseful. Suspense to me was waiting for that ending kiss!
